It can be tough to squeeze in exercise routines and weightlifting when you have a lot of other obligations to fulfil. This article is intended for individuals who struggle to make time for working out despite it being a priority. It's not meant for those who can't find time to exercise because they're preoccupied with watching TV and playing video games or simply too lazy to hit the gym. We're talking about real-life scenarios, such as:
  • Single Parenthood
  • Newborn Baby or Toddler
  • High-Stress Job (80 Hours a Week)
We're not referring to lazy 18-year-olds who have a problem with setting their priorities straight. If the core cause is a lack of priorities, then it's essential to tackle that first. However, the issue we're discussing is a legitimate shortage of time, which is different.

How much time does a training session take?

Let's determine how much time we need to allocate for our training. A good strength training session in the gym typically takes around 1.5 to 2 hours. This does not include quick workouts but instead focuses on lifting heavy weights to build strength. On average, a training session lasts about 2 hours. However, when you consider the time needed to get ready, travel to and from the gym, and take a shower, the total time required is approximately 3 hours. So, how can we find 3 hours to dedicate to our training?

You train early in the morning.

Consider waking up early! If need be, wake up at 5 am and hit the gym right away. Mornings are free from distractions, with the kids still asleep, and your work hours not yet in motion. Once you're done with your workout and shower, you will have the day ahead of you. This is the most sustainable way to make time for exercise if you have other responsibilities that consume your time. You can't rely on exercising in the evenings, as when you have long days every day, you may lack the energy and motivation to go to the gym. Scheduling your workout at night will increase the likelihood of missing a session due to a tiresome day. This problem doesn't exist when you exercise in the morning. Wake up at 5 and complete your workout first thing in the morning. You don't have to shower before you exercise in the morning, so you'll save time, too.

Make sure you sleep early

When you arrive home from work in the evening, finish your day's tasks and try to get to bed by 9 pm, as this will enable you to get a full 8 hours of sleep. Many people tend to waste their nighttime by just lying around, watching TV, or doing other activities to relax their minds. However, this time can be better utilized by sleeping, which is necessary to get 8 hours of sleep if you plan to train in the morning for the long run. Busy individuals usually train in the morning because it is the only time they can do so consistently without any interruptions such as meetings, work calls, managing children, or early morning appointments. This time in the morning is for you to use for yourself, so make the best use of it by training.

Pro tip: If you have some extra space and cash to spare, you can create a home gym that won't break the bank. This way, you won't have to waste time driving to and from the gym. Plus, you won't have to wait for equipment because it will be right there in your own home.
